Surrounded by 360,000 +/- acres of USFS land, one can hardly find himself bored with so much to do. Three hundred or so fish-filled lakes blanket this mountain, and fishing ain’t the only game in town. All four seasons bring with it a magnificent awe at God’s imagination and creativity. Whether it is spring, summer, winter or fall, there’s much to do, much to see, and much to explore here in the grandeur of Colorado. (Want to know the DOW Fishing Report?)

Glorious wild flowers spring from every nook and cranny, quilting the luscious green and brown earth with a tapestry of color that simply makes your heart swell. Butterflies flit from flower to flower, and a small little black bear cub, resting on his haunches just over yonder, swats at the moving thing, tipping himself over. You find yourself giggling at his mischievous grunts that echo through the forest. He rights himself once again and sniffs at the wild columbine tickling his brown nose. So many Kodak moments.
Winter brings a carpet of deep, powdery snow that spawns a quiet hush about the sleeping forest. Snowflakes quietly descend from Heaven, each in its own uniqueness, clothing the mountain with a wondrous twinkling wintry white. The awesome sound of silence makes this place truly The Gateway to Heaven, where Paradise stretches a very long way. Breath in. Breath out. Ahhhh…...At 10,300’ the air is thin… but the clearness of the cerulean skies and the freshness of the purest air bring a breath of life to the soul that few places on earth can emulate. The reminders that life and liberty are precious can’t get any more dramatic than this!

Truly a fisherman's paradise, it is also home to miles of recreational trails.
